6 November 2025

Wicked: One Wonderful Night brings a star-studded NBC special featuring exclusive sneak peeks, live performances, and behind-the-scenes magic ahead of the highly anticipated “Wicked” movie sequel release.

Wicked: One Wonderful Night marks the arrival of November and brings us closer to the long-awaited sequel of last year’s enchanting Australian-set film adaptation of the renowned Broadway musical “Wicked.”

Before that happens, though, NBC is hosting a special event this Thursday to bring some of that magic to your screens.

“Wicked: One Wonderful Night” will feature appearances from some of the cast of the anticipated two-part movie directed by John M. Chu. The special will also include the first-ever public reveal of a clip from the upcoming sequel, aiming to make a lasting impression on fans.

Not convinced? That’s up to you. But here’s the deal about this exciting night—it does seem to follow the usual promotional format or, to put it , a lengthy ad.

How can I watch ‘Wicked: One Wonderful Night’?

You can catch the two-hour musical special on Thursday November 6 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. If you’re subscribed to Peacock, you’ll be able to stream it the day after.

Who’s going to be there?

The captivating lead stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, both Academy Award nominees, will take center stage for the event. They will perform alongside their “Wicked: For Good” co-stars, including Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, and Marissa Bode. Jonathan Bailey, named the most desirable man alive, will not be attending. A live orchestra of 37 skilled musicians will bring the performances to life, though their names do not appear in the promotions. Stephen Oremus, a three-time Emmy nominee, will guide the night as the music director, promising incredible moments throughout.

What will I see?

The promotional materials say there will be sneak peeks of impressive musical performances from the new movie. These include songs from the second half of the Tony Award-winning Broadway production that inspired the films, along with some new tunes thrown in. Fans will also get to enjoy “reimagined musical arrangements, cast interviews, behind-the-scenes looks at the Emerald City-inspired set, exclusive surprises”, and other exciting extras. how could anyone say no to a fancy extended ad loaded with even more ads?

If you’re someone who skips Wikipedia or thinks a year is way too long to remember plot points (which makes sense) here’s a quick recap. The first movie ended with Elphaba, played by Erivo, making her iconic “Defying Gravity” exit after Madame Morrible (Yeoh) and the Wizard of Oz (Goldblum) branded her as “The Wicked Witch.” Glinda portrayed by Grande, felt conflicted about it all but seemed to support Morrible and the Wizard.

What’s next in the new movie?

If you’re one of the over 15 million people who’ve watched “Wicked” on Broadway (or part of the 65 million worldwide who’ve seen the touring shows), you already know what to expect. Still, like me, if you saw it long ago—maybe back in 2006—you might find some details a bit foggy. Even so, the early preview clips show that this sequel fits into the beloved story of “The Wizard of Oz.” Fans have already noticed hints of classic touches from the 1939 film such as the famous Yellow Brick Road, along with appearances from Dorothy, Toto, and the Cowardly Lion.

The first “Wicked” movie led the box office as the top-earning adaptation of a Broadway musical. It earned an amazing 10 Academy Award nominations, which included best picture. Grande and Erivo both got recognized with acting nominations, and the film won two awards one for its remarkable production design and another for costume design. “Wicked” has turned into a global favorite drawing in fans from all over the world.

“Wicked: For Good” hits the stage on November 21 kicking off the countdown to what could be another massive hit. Fans of musicals are already buzzing with excitement. Tickets are now available for booking in advance, and they are likely to sell out quickly. Since the original shattered box office records, this sequel is set to create a big splash at the holiday box office.

If you’re a longtime admirer or just discovering the magical land of Oz, “Wicked: One Wonderful Night” will probably offer an exciting peek into what could end up being one of the most magical events of the year.
