9 August 2025

Florence Pugh, Oxford native and Thunderbolts star, is expected to join Captain America’s team on a multiverse journey in the upcoming Avengers film without formally becoming an Avenger.

Oxford native Florence Pugh is speculated to have a significant role in the forthcoming Marvel Studios film, Avengers: Doomsday, the latest instalment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) Multiverse Saga.

The actress, who hails from the city, has gained recognition for her performances in 2019’s Little Women, 2022’s Don’t Worry Darling, 2023’s Oppenheimer, and Dune: Part Two in 2024.

The star also appeared in Midsommar in 2019, and recently acted alongside Andrew Garfield in We Live in Time.

Speculation suggests her character will have a crucial role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film, potentially utilizing her skills as a master of disguise with advanced face mask technology.

Industry insider Daniel Richtman, indicates that Yelena won’t be formally joining Captain America’s New Avengers team. However, the Thunderbolts star is expected to play a pivotal role in the movie’s plot.

Nevertheless, Yelena Belova will reportedly “join them on their journey to an alternate universe” in the superhero film, according to the insider. This adventure might involve the use of an extra-dimensional spacecraft, further expanding the scope of the Multiverse Saga.

The source continues: “The choice of Yelena to accompany Wilson’s group of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes on their multiverse mission is noteworthy. Her expertise from the Thunderbolts team could prove invaluable in navigating the challenges of alternate realities.”

“Sources indicate that Pugh and Anthony Mackie were initially scheduled for additional shared scenes in Thunderbolts and Avengers: Doomsday, but character storylines underwent late modifications. Rumors suggest that elements of chemical mind control might play a role in the plot, potentially affecting some of the heroes.”

“This information might stem from a previous draft – the final script, to our knowledge, remains unfinished. The Thunderbolts movie has set the stage for Yelena’s expanded role in the broader MCU, and fans are eagerly anticipating how her character will evolve in Avengers: Doomsday.”

As the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand, Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova seems poised to become an integral part of the franchise’s future, bridging the gap between the Thunderbolts and the New Avengers in the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday
