Katy Perry: Fashionable Farewell on American Idol Finale

Katy Perry’s Stylish Farewell: Celebrating Seven Seasons of American Idol Through Fashion and Emotional Tributes

Katy Perry concluded her seven-season journey on American Idol with a stylish nod to her time on the show and the contestants she’s encountered, marking the season 22 finale with outfits that celebrated her experiences. The finale was an emotional affair, highlighting her deep connection and affection for the show.

In a fashion-forward finale on May 19th, Katy Perry bid farewell to American Idol. Having graced the show as a judge for seven seasons, Perry made her last appearance memorable during the season 22 finale, leaving a lasting impression on the popular singing competition.

A Tribute Through Fashion

For the grand finale, Perry showcased two unique outfits that paid homage to her tenure on American Idol. She appeared alongside third-place contestant Jack Blocker in a striking silver corset dress, which featured the faces of 168 former Idol contestants – representing the top 24 from each season she judged. Elevated on a platform, Perry’s dress became a focal point. ‘To honor my time here, I wanted to feature the top 24 contestants from each season on my dress. It was a fun surprise as I was lifted up and more and more faces were revealed,’ Perry explained to Entertainment Tonight. Her Instagram post captioned ‘7 years’ included a finale look photo and a video of the dress being carried into the studio, highlighting her meaningful outfits.

A Second Meaningful Look

Another significant outfit worn by Perry during the broadcast was a gold corset adorned with seven 3D roses, symbolizing her seven seasons on American Idol. This gold corset, paired with a flowing white skirt, was shared on social media where Perry explained its representation of her journey on the show.

An Emotional Goodbye

The American Idol finale was an emotional rollercoaster for Katy Perry, especially as Abi Carter was announced the winner. Perry, visibly moved, shared tearful embraces with fellow judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie as Carter performed Billie Eilish’s ‘What Was I Made For?’ in a moving rendition. Carter’s victory came after competing against finalists Will Moseley and Jack Blocker, who finished second and third respectively.

Reflecting on Her Journey

Katy Perry, who joined the American Idol judges panel in 2018 alongside Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie for the show’s ABC revival, announced her departure after seven seasons during a February 2024 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. She teased future projects, including new music, hinting at a busy year ahead. ‘This will probably be my final show, my last season on Idol,’ Perry revealed, expressing her gratitude and love for the show that connected her with America’s heart, but emphasizing her need to pursue her own projects.
