Warner Bros. Announces Negotiations for Practical Magic Sequel Starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman: What We Know So Far
The time has come once again for midnight margaritas. According to Variety, sequel news has broken that negotiations are currently underway for a practical magic sequel to the beloved 1998 romantic fantasy film “Practical Magic” with Sandra Bullock and Nicole. Kidman is set to reprise their roles as the witchy sisters Sally Owens and Gillian Owens. The announcement was made on TikTok by Warner Bros., who shared a clip from the original movie with the caption, “It’s official… Practical Magic 2 is coming!” This exciting Nicole Kidman news and Sandra Bullock news has fans wondering, “Will there be a Practical Magic 2?”
Returning Cast and Producers
Bullock and Kidman, who are part of many Nicole Kidman movies and TV shows, will also be involved as producers alongside Denise Di Novi, who produced the first film and is known for her work on female-focused movies like “Heathers” and “Little Women.” The screenplay will be written by Akiva Goldsman, who won an Oscar for “A Beautiful Mind” and also wrote the original script.
The Story of “Practical Magic”
“Practical Magic” tells the story of Sally Owens and Gillian, two sisters who come from a long line of witches cursed by a family curse and were taught the art of practical magic by their aunts, Jet Owens and Franny owens, after their parents, including their father Vincent Owens, passed away.
When they accidentally revive Gillian’s abusive boyfriend, played by Aidan Quinn, they must battle his evil spirit while also dealing with the curse that causes any man who falls in love with an Owens woman to die. The 1998 film, based on the Alice Hoffman novel Rules of Magic, was a moderate success that has since gained a devoted following and cult status.
Reception and Cult Status
The original movie received mixed reviews. In their 1998 review, The Times stated that the two lead actresses, Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock, delivered strong performances, and the supporting actresses, Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest, brought a fun eccentricity to their roles as the aunts. However, the overall film was not deemed particularly memorable.
Despite this, the sequel movie announcement has been welcomed by fans, many of whom have been wondering, “Is practical magic on Netflix?” and searching for “practical Magic where to watch” so they can revisit the practical magic quotes, practical magic pictures, and practical magic movie quotes that they love. For those asking “where to watch Practical Magic”, the original film can be streamed on HBO Max, alongside other best Nicole Kidman movies on Netflix and Nicole Kidman Halloween movies.
Future of the Sequel
While details about the sequel are scarce, Di Novi has hinted at a return to the small-town Practical Magic filming location of Massachusetts, saying in a previous interview with UPI that fans will be pleased with what’s in store from the world of “Practical Magic.” The cast of the Practical Magic sequel has yet to be fully announced, aside from the return of Bullock and Kidman, and no release date has been set.
Anticipation and Speculation
In the meantime, fans of the Owens sisters can revisit the original film and speculate about what magic the sequel might bring. Will there be more sisters movie quotes or a new magic baby name in the tradition of Sally’s daughters Kylie and Antonia? Only time will tell. But one thing is certain – with the combined star power of Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock, “Practical Magic 2” will surely cast a spell on audiences, just like the original cult classic.
