Richard Gere embraces Spanish lifestyle with wife Alejandra Silva, finding joy in Latin culture while occasionally missing the energy of New York
Richard Gere offered unique details about his life in Spain with wife Alejandra Silva while attending the DOC NYC Visionaries Tribute Luncheon on Tuesday, Nov. 12. The actor talked about how much he values the “Spanish culture” and the “warm and welcoming people,” although he admitted he sometimes misses the “energy” of New York City. The couple, who tied the knot in 2018, moved to Spain in 2024.
Richard Gere is opening up about his life in Spain with his wife, Alejandra Silva, and the experiences they share together.
At the DOC NYC Visionaries Tribute Luncheon at Gotham Hall on Tuesday, Nov. 12, the 76-year-old Hollywood legend spoke about what he loves most about his new home and what he misses from his old life.
“The best thing about living in Spain is seeing how happy my wife is,” he said. “She has her family and her close friends around her, and that makes her happy.”

He also talked about Spain’s culture saying, “There’s so much joy in the Spanish way of life. People are so warm and real, and life feels less rushed than it does in the US.”
The well-known Pretty Woman actor shared his love for Spanish food and traditions saying, “There’s a certain joy in the atmosphere. It feels similar to Italy. When you experience these Latin cultures, whether it’s Spain or Italy, you come across a whole different way of living compared to what we know here.”

Even so, Gere admits he misses parts of his life in New York the distinct “energy” of the city. He says, “It’s something that sticks with you.”
Earlier this year, the actor spoke to Spanish magazine Elle España about his move sharing how living in Europe with his 41-year-old wife, their sons Alexander 5, and James 4, and Silva’s 11-year-old son Albert, brought him a sense of “fulfillment.”
“We’re living our best life right now. Things couldn’t be better,” Gere told the publication. “When [Alejandra] feels at peace and at home, that’s when I feel the same. Her joy is what makes me happy.”
The Agency star met Silva in Italy back in 2014 after splitting from his ex-wife Carey Lowell. He shares a 25-year-old son, Homer James, with her. The actor pointed out that their shared love of working on environmental projects has made their connection even stronger.

He explained that real change happens by setting aside self-centered ways and thinking more about the collective good. He shared this while talking about their work together, which includes being part of the Sierra a Mar project in Mexico.
“My wife has a bright spirit that shows in her open mind and deep gratitude,” he explained. “Finding that essence, whether it’s in faith, kindness, or love, feels limitless.”
During another talk, Silva talked to Elle España about her bond with Gere. She first met him in Positano, a beautiful town on the Amalfi Coast, and married him in 2018. She called their connection that of “true soul mates.”

“We hold the same values and look at life in a similar way. When we first met, there was this unexplainable sense of comfort, like we had already known each other for ages. If you’re lucky, you experience a bond like this once in your life… It feels like our connection was shaped by the karma from our previous lives,” she shared.
