Global Icon’s Stadium Spectacle: Shakira Enlists Sting, Chris Martin, and Latin Stars for Revolutionary Visual Extravaganza.
Shakira is a whirlwind of energy, never standing still. And not just on stage. Her tireless enthusiasm is evident even before the show, far from the public eye. This dynamism is a hallmark of Shakira’s music and performances, contributing to her status as a leading figure in the Latin pop scene and enhancing her visibility as a prominent Latin artist.
“I’m incredibly excited to finally kick off my first stadium tour in the United States,” Shakira told CNN in English, in her final interview on Mexican soil, after breaking her own attendance records there and continuing her “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour” through South America. “I’m like Halley’s Comet,” she says, hinting at the rarity and anticipation surrounding her tours. Fans are already speculating about potential Shakira tour 2025 dates, eager for more opportunities to experience her electrifying stadium performances.

Breaking Records: Seven Consecutive Sold-Out Nights in Mexico City
Outside, crowds were filling up the stadium where, for the seventh consecutive night to a packed house, Shakira was performing in the Mexican capital. The group RBD had previously held six concerts at the same venue, but now Shakira has surpassed that record with her Mexico City concerts, showcasing her immense popularity and the strength of her Latin audience support. This success is a testament to Shakira’s impact on the global music market and the commercial viability of Latin pop.
Despite the pressure of knowing that 65,000 people were waiting outside for another sold-out show, Shakira continued moving from place to place, finally settling down for a few minutes to chat. Her energy and dedication to her craft are evident, reflecting the passion she brings to every Shakira concert and contributing to her consistent presence on the Billboard Top Tours chart.
From Arenas to Stadiums: Shakira’s First Stadium Tour in North America
Here are the highlights from that conversation:
You’re starting the North American tour on May 13th, and I understand there are seventeen concerts scheduled, but please tell me if there are new dates. Given what happened in Mexico, where you started with something small that turned into something massive, are you confident about how this will go in the United States, or is there always nervousness about how the audience will respond?
First of all, I’m thrilled to finally be starting my first Shakira stadium tour in the United States on May 13th. The U.S. and Canada tour dates are generating a lot of excitement, and we’re seeing an incredible response from fans. This tour, titled “Shakira: Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” (Women Don’t Cry Anymore), is set to make a significant impact on tour revenue and artist career earnings.
You’ve never done this before.
I’ve done several tours across the United States but never in stadiums. This is my first stadium tour; it’s become something huge, and I’m really excited. In fact, we’re announcing a second stadium show in Miami, a second one in New York, it’s absolutely crazy. I can’t believe the audience response. I feel that I’ll be well-supported by my Latin audience, and I think there’s a wide range of fans who have been with me since “Laundry Service” or even before. These record-breaking performances are a testament to the enduring appeal of Shakira music and the growing influence of the Latin music industry.
Seven Years in the Making: The Return of “Halley’s Comet”
The last time you were there was for “El Dorado,” which was in 2018, so it’s been…
Seven years, yes! I always take a long break between tours. I’m like Halley’s Comet, but even slower because it takes me more than four years to do a tour. For me, it’s an extensive process because I’m involved in everything I do. I try to participate in and, in a way, control every aspect. I have to create my own music, produce my own songs, which takes considerable time in the studio, and then put together an album, present it to the world, and finally prepare a tour of this magnitude – it’s not simple. This approach has contributed to my musical evolution over the years and has helped solidify my position as one of the most prominent women in Latin music.
Revolutionary Production: AI, CGI, and Musical Innovation
We’ve been working on this tour for over a year. I’ve been working on original music and adjusting arrangements for some songs, but for others that people cherish in their original form, I’m trying to keep them authentic while giving them a refreshed sound. This includes both my Spanish songs and Shakira English songs, ensuring a diverse setlist that reflects my career.
It’s been quite a musical challenge. The visuals production has been incredible too. We have 45 people working on these visuals, incorporating Artificial Intelligence and CGI technology. I believe this hasn’t been done before – it’s been a huge challenge and took us considerable time to complete. There’s extensive choreography, a two-and-a-half-hour show featuring a large portion of my musical repertoire, including of course “Hips Don’t Lie,” “Whenever, Wherever,” “Objection,” “She Wolf,” all those songs that have become fan favorites over the years. We also delve into the deeper meaning of “She Wolf,” exploring its connection to themes of female empowerment and self-expression.
Spanning Generations: From Classic Hits to New Favorites
But there’s also the new repertoire, the more recent songs that audiences are still discovering. There’s a wide range of fans out there, people who have been with me since my first album outside Colombia, right up to the most recent one. Imagine, it’s been such a long journey, and I think these concerts are more than just shows – they’re a reunion, a profound reconnection between my fans and me. This level of audience engagement is what keeps me motivated and inspired and contributes to the ongoing success of my sold-out shows.
You’ve mentioned that for the U.S. tour, you’re confident friends and colleagues will join you. There will surely be surprises, and you probably can’t tell me who’ll be on stage with you, but give me a list of three names you dream of having on stage with you.
I’ve invited all my friends. I have many friends in the industry. When we’re in the studio, we form friendships that last a lifetime. I have friends like Alejandro Sanz, who’s like a brother to me, and Will.i.am, who checks on me whenever I’m going through tough times, always asking, “Are you okay?” These are the people who have stood by me through both good times and challenging moments. Chris Martin…
Perhaps Sting? Because I saw you with him the other day.
Sting attended one of my concerts in Brazil. It was an honor to have him there. However, many of my friends will also be making appearances. I’ve called everyone, and they’ve all said yes – let’s see who shows up. For now, I can confirm that Alejandro Sanz will be there, along with Carlos Vives. Will.i.am has confirmed his participation.
Really? That’s going to be hot.
Yes, and many more. These collaborations showcase the cultural fusion that’s become a hallmark of my music and performances, further enhancing my impact on the global music market.
Music as Healing: Embracing Latino Identity in Changing Times
One last question because I’m being told it’s time for you to go on stage. You’re arriving (soon) in the United States, in North America, and being a woman with such enormous social consciousness, how do you view your arrival in the United States when it’s a country experiencing so much political and social change?
These concerts have both a liberating and healing effect. Not just on me. I feel it every night, feeling like a small wound is closing, because my audience is so loving, so understanding, and so empathetic to everything I experience in my daily life.
But I also understand what they’re going through. I know what we Latinos are experiencing. I know what we’re living through in the world. I know how we’re sometimes treated and how unfair it can be. And I know our true worth.
When someone mistreats us, we need, as a community, to grow stronger and more united to remind ourselves of our own value. And in these concerts, I’m feeling that strongly. That’s something my fans have always done for me. They’ve reminded me who I am.
When I had doubts about myself, when I felt vulnerable, they gave me strength, and I hope to do the same for them, especially in these times. My performances often touch on personal experiences and societal themes, which I believe contributes to the deep connection I share with my audience and reinforces the importance of female representation in the music industry.
Beyond The Stage: The Cultural Impact of Shakira’s World Tour
As I prepare for this Shakira stadium tour across North America, I’m excited to bring not just my music but also messages of resilience and female empowerment to my fans. The Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour is more than just a series of concerts; it’s a celebration of our shared experiences and the power of music to unite and inspire. With each performance, I hope to leave a lasting impact, both on the Billboard charts and in the hearts of my fans.
The tour’s success is not just a personal achievement but also a significant boost to music tourism and the local economies of the cities we visit. As Shakira today continues to make headlines and Shakira news dominates entertainment sections, it’s clear that this tour is set to be a landmark event in the Latin America tour circuit and beyond.
