Stephen Nedoroscik, Olympic bronze medalist and viral sensation, becomes the first celebrity announced for Season 33 of the popular dance competition show, set to premiere in September.
The Olympic gymnast and breakout star of the usa gymnastics olympic team 2024 joins the cast of Season 33 of “Dancing With the Stars,” the dance competition show announced Thursday Aug. 22.
“From Paris, where the next Olympics in 2024 will be held, to #DWTS! We’re excited to welcome pommel horse star and one-event specialist @stephen_nedoroscik as the season’s first celebrity premiering live on Tuesday, September 17, on ABC and Disney+! Next day on Hulu,” the show posted on Instagram.
The Rise of “Pommel Horse Guy
Nedoroscik, known as “Pommel Horse Guy” and Team USA gymnastics Superman after memes of the bespectacled gymnast spread during the 2024 Paris Olympics, became the first celebrity announced for the upcoming season of “Dancing With the Stars.” Fans are eager to see who are the hosts of dancing with the stars this season and which contestants in dancing with the stars will be competing for the Mirrorball Trophy alongside this quirky guy and viral star.
The 25-year-old Penn State engineering graduate captured hearts in Paris and beyond as his nerdy image would change in an instant when he’d take off his glasses to become a powerful American gymnast on the pommel horse — earning him the nickname “gymnastics’ Clark Kent.” His skills, including the handstand and backflip, helped him gain internet fame.
Olympic Success and Medal Haul
Nedoroscik’s prowess on the pommel horse helped the olympic gymnastics team 2024 reach the podium for the first time since 2008 in the men’s team final, winning the bronze medal. He also won an individual bronze medal in the pommel horse event, adding to his collection of Olympic medals.
This Olympic hero spoke about his quick rise to viral attention and stardom on TODAY on Aug. 14.
“It’s different from what we’re used to. It’s our new normal now, but I’m enjoying it,” Nedoroscik said. “I love the attention I’m bringing to men’s gymnastics and all my teammates. I think it’s positive, and I’m eager to see where it takes me.”
Overcoming Visual Challenges
Nedoroscik also drew attention to his two eye conditions: strabismus and coloboma.
He described competing without glasses during a TODAY appearance on July 30.
“The glasses don’t stay on during pommel horse routines,” he explained. “When I’m on the pommel horse, I rely on feeling the equipment. My vision isn’t crucial for gymnastics. My hands do all the work — they sense everything.”
From Gymnastics to Dance: A New Challenge
Nedoroscik has now joined the “DWTS” cast, but he talked about the chance to be on the show in an Access Hollywood interview on Aug. 14. Fans are wondering who’s left on dancing with the stars tonight and if this usa guy can take home the trophy like who won dancing with the stars season 9.
When asked if he’d consider competing on “DWTS,” he left the door open.
“Dancing makes me insecure, to be honest,” he admitted. “But I always try to push my limits. Even competing at the Olympics feels very uncomfortable, and I’ve learned to deal with discomfort, so it’s doable.”
Looking Ahead: Season 33 and Beyond
ABC News says they’ll reveal more cast members for Season 33 on September 4. The new season kicks off September 17 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and Disney+. Gymnastics fans will also be eager to see the us women’s olympic gymnastics team 2024 and women’s world gymnastics results in the leadup to the next Olympics.
